In 2018, she became a board-certified veterinary clinical pathologist after completing her residency and master’s degree at Purdue University. She went to Elmhurst University for her undergraduate studies and the University of Illinois for veterinary school, where she discovered her passion for clinical pathology. Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Ashley has lived throughout the Midwest during her schooling and career. Outside the clinic and laboratory, Carol spends as much time as possible on a stand-up paddleboard with Maddie the Labrador. Carol’s professional interests include cytology, hematology, transfusion medicine, fluid resuscitation and animal behavior. Carol finished her clinical pathology residency at Oklahoma State University in 2021 and achieved ACVP board certification the same year. She achieved ACVECC board certification in 2012 and practiced small animal emergency and critical care medicine for 6 years before pursuing a residency in clinical pathology. This was followed by residency training in small animal emergency and critical care at the Animal Emergency Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. After veterinary school, Carol completed both rotating and specialty small animal internships at Garden State Veterinary Specialists and the University of Missouri, respectively. Haak is a 2006 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
